Leaving your child in the care of others is probably one of the most important decisions you will need to make. You need to feel fully satisfied that the people taking on this role are qualified and/or experienced enough to do so. At Little Scallywags we endeavour to employ staff of the higherst quality, they are considered to be Little Scallywags most important resource. OFSTED guidelines state that 50% of all staff must be qualified to NVQ level 2 or above. At Little Scallywags we go over and above this, 80% of the staff here are qualified to at least level 2, in fact 70% hold level 3 or equivalent qualifications. We also have an experienced Nursery Teacher who works with the pre-school children. There is a full commitment to continuous training and development at Little Scallywags. This means that staff are kept fully aware and up to date on relevant issues and ensure that their knowledge of child care and development is enhanced. Two of our staff are qualified NVQ assessors meaning that we can assess trainee nursery nurses performance and knowledge to help them gain their qualification. Students or apprentices are supervised by a qualified member of staff at all times and are not counted in the staff to children ratios. As well as the staff there is a board of Directors. Little Scallywags is a non-profit making organisation, that is to say that any money made is invested back into the nursery. The board along with the Nursery Manager and our accountant, meet regularly to discuss how the nursery is progressing, including any plans for the future. |

"I am a trainee studying NVQ level 2 in childcare. My course is for 12 months and I am working at Little Scallywags in order to gain practical experience, as well as attending college one day a week. I really enjoy the work at the nursery, the staff are easy to get on with and the children are great! for anybody who is interested in childcare, I would recommend the modern apprentice scheme as you are gaining the knowledge and experience that you need and earning a wage at the same time." Vickie. "I am the Nursery Manager. My job is to ensure that all aspects of the nursery run smoothly. I have a very supportive staff team. I work very closely with the nursery nurses in each room in order to keep up to date with daily developments and to make plans for the future. Together we provide a happy, secure and stimulating environment in which children can learn and develop to their full potential. I am always happy to answer any questions that you may have regarding your child's care here at Little Scallywags." Adele.
