BABY ROOM

In the baby room, the emphasis is on providing an environment where the babies can feel secure. They are able to explore using their senses and begin to interact with other adults and babies and children. Eleven babies are cared for, by three qualified nursery nurses and one experienced nursery assistant.

Parents/carers are asked to provide bottle-feeds. The hospital caterers provide special diets and a variety of meals. Parents supply nappies and these are labelled for use by individual babies. Babies are admitted into the nursery on a gradual basis. During this time you can discuss your child's routine and individual needs with your child's nursery nurse.

The babies enjoy regular walks in the fresh air in the nursery's prams or buggies. They also have their own grassed outdoor area where they can play safely. There is an adjoining sleep room where babies can take their daytime naps. A separate milk kitchen and changing room also adjoin the main baby playroom.

TWEENIE ROOM

Four nursery nurses and two experienced nursery assistants care for a maximum of seventeen children in this pleasant environment. Ages range from around 14 months to about 2½ years. A wide variety of experiences are provided for the children which encourage their continuing development, with particular emphasis on a child's social and emotional well being. There is a sleep-time after lunch for those children who require it.

Children are individually assessed to ensure that they reach the appropriate level of development to enable them to progress and enjoy pre-school activities. Although the children work and play with all the staff, each nursery nurse is responsible for a small group of children. Detailed progress records are kept for each child and are available to parents at any time.

PRE-SCHOOL ROOM

Children move up into the pre-school room at around 2½ - 3 years once they are at the appropriate stage of development and of course there is a space for them to move into. The maximum number in this group is twenty-eight. A nursery teacher, four qualified nursery nurses and a nursery assistant work alongside each other in this room. Activities are carefully planned around themes, and are aimed at providing learning opportunities that will encourage children to progress towards the early learning goals.

Children are regularly assessed, each child has a portfolio which parents can see on request. These records of achievement are useful to a child's teacher as they go on to school and as well as providing a record of your child's time at Little Scallywags to look back on.

The Pre-School and Tweenie rooms both open out onto a large grassed and paved play area. The children can extend their learning, develop their physical skills and play safely as part of the daily routine. Sports Tots sessions and dance lessons are an optional extra enjoyed weekly and a bookclub is also offered to help stimulate your child's interest in books.

Further terms and conditions can be found in the nursery's full prospectus. Highlights of our successful OFSTED report are available to view on this web site.
